I am 26 and have had problems with acne for many years. My dermatologist prescribed me both Bactrim & Differin Cream (not gel). I was on Retin A Cream(a low % dose - .025%) and Minocycline however I went to see her today and I had some bad pimples and she thought we should switch it up.

I should mention that I do get breakout

Hi, if yo are not happy then go and tell your dermatologist that you do not want to take antibiotics. Are you a female & what age? because you could possibly take the pill. Bactrim & Differin, I know the medication but have not heard it used in acne. Retin A is certainly good if used only at night and not in the day as it is photosensitive. You could use clindamycin lotion and also it can be used in a wash. You dermatologist can give you a script for the pharmacist to make up. Just a suggestion if you are worried about taking antiobiotics for a long period of time, which is the case with acne. Good luck with it and don't panic, just go back and explain it to the dermatologist.

Hi there! Unfortunately, I am not familiar with Bactrim but I have mild acne and I currently use Differin gel .1% along with clindamycin phoshate (topical antibiotic lotion). I really like it! It takes about 2 months to see some results (for me at least and I had horrible whiteheaRAB everywhere on my chin and occasional pimples that would take awhile to go away) but it really does work!! All my whiteheaRAB are gone and the occasional pimple I do get goes away in a couple days. At night I do the following: 1. wash with dove sensitive skin facial cloths (soap-free, really gentle and gets all makeup off) 2. Let skin dry for about 20-30 mins 3. apply small amount of differin to my chin (the only area i need it on according to my derm) 4. let that dry and soak in for the same amount of time (20-30 mins) 5. mix equal parts of clindamycin with oil-free moisturizer (neutrogena oil-free moisture for sensitive skin w/out spf) and apply all over face and let that dry. i find that if i just use clindamycin alone all over my face, it makes my skin very oily- i have dry sensitive skin 6. use 2.5% of Benzoyl peroxide as spot treamtment. benzoyl peroxide works really well in conjuction with clindamycin. Then in the morning, I do the same thing just without the differin and the moisturizer i use to mix the clindamycin with is oil-free and has spf 30. I hope this helps! Maybe ask your derm about doing a topical antibiotic like clindamycin... Sorry for the long reply! Take care and best of luck with everything!
