BackupBuddy 2 Beta for windows is now available for download. The new version introduces a unique patent-pending process for backing up devices and storing all changes made to the device since the last backup in a database.

BackupBuddy 2.0 first announced at the PalmSource 2004 Developer Conference, is nearing completion. Blue Nomad has released their latest build as a free public beta trial open to everyone. Some of the new features include:

Stores backup copies of all the programs, settings, and data on your Palm Powered device on your PC.
Select specific backups as "Snapshots" to be maintained permanently, and choose an automatic Snapshot frequency.
Maintains a database of all file changes and deletions each time you back up.
Offers one-click restoration of your handheld's entire contents to any previous backup you have stored. This is a process that we call a "ZoomBack".
Ability to select all databases associated with a specific program for restoration.
Exclude specific files, file types, and card directories from being backed up.
Keeps archival copies of deleted programs and databases.
Maintain backups for multiple users on one PC.
Automatic Sync feature automatically HotSync's your handheld each day at a time you choose.
The BackupBuddy 2.0 beta is enabled until June 15th as a fully featured trial version. The developer is seeking feedback on the release. Keep in mind the software is a beta version and it is recommended you have an alternative backup available if using your personal device. The company says that upgrade pricing has yet to be determined, but all BackupBuddy for Windows users who registered after Jan. 1, 2004 are entitled to a complimentary upgrade. Other registered users will be entitled to a generous discount when BB2 is released.

I've redone this twice because I don't want to unnecessarily upset anyone, and especially kimh to whom I'm VERY grateful for this information - I'm not shooting the messenger here -- let me preface with that first off.

OK. Here goes. It never ceases to amaze me just how "bent" this company is. First they give you a "free beta" and expect you to have an ALTERNATE backup for all your stuff because this is a BETA; then, on June 15th, assuming you haven't screwed anything up with their BETA or its conduits, the trial expires!!

Why in the name of GOD would anyone mess with that? Why can't they, after having SUCH PROBLEMS WITH BU BUDDY VFS, take a little of their own time and resources and TEST IT first - and then offer it as a final product you pay for? Backs up your stuff to PC? Have they heard of this new thing called "Hotsync?!"

Card info can be backed up with a CARD READER.

Do they really think we are all going to unload a test beta, use it with any BUGS in it, infect my T3 and PC with it, and back up everything -- I mean BACKUP - the most important thing in the world if it all "hits the fan" -- and then only have it 30 days? That's if it WORKS? Should we hard-reset and TEST it? That's the only way you'd know . . . what's our reward for that endeavor?

Thanks kimh for the (once again!) terrific heads up -- but doesn't this particular "software offering" strike you as just plain COCKY? Try out new deal, see what problems there are and your reward for the risk of BACKING UP with it is you send us a payment -- if there are no problems? Jeez.

They can go spit as far as I'm concerned - I've had a "bee in my ear" about this outfit for a while now since their glitchy "Restore" on 2 occasions (once with a 505 and once with the T3) and this just CAPS it. There may be occasional "conduit glitches" with HotSync, but PalmOne have done a splendid job with it overall in my opinion. Since 95% of all failures WILL NOT OCCUR while you're in front of your PC, any backup advantages are moot anyway. CardBackup from jkware hasn't let me down once, and I'm stickin' with Jason. As far as PC backup, hotsync's GREAT and I take a snapshot of my SD256 every 2 weeks, as well as backup the files that GO ON IT in a folder on the PC. CDs of the archive and backup folder are burned in aggregate 2-3 times per week.

DON'T YOU ALL THINK IT'S A LITTLE LATE TO COME TO THE PARTY with a new version of T3 BACKUP?? Untested?!
