Backup/replacement TX

I have a TX and am thinking it might make sense to have a backup/replacement just in case i have a problem. I'm a pretty heavy user and I almost always find myself replacing my palm every year, two at the most. I use backupman for disc backup. Seems like if I wait for the machine to breakdown without a reserve, I'm always on the ropes for a few days dealing with the situation as an emergency. My question is, if I buy a backup TX (preferably used, refurbished, discount) is it more likely to have problems due to its non-use? are there any other considerations i'm not thinking of? where is the best place to get a decent deal (yeah, i know about ebay)?

I used to own a much loved Newton 2100 and eventually got a backup unit when I started to rely on it more heavily than anticipated.

In order to ensure a reliable backup, I used to interchange the units. Backup unit A, restore on unit B which I then use for a few days, backup B and switch to unit A. And so on ad infinitum.

I'm hoping to get another Palm (Treo/TX) that I'll use as a backup in the same way. Hope this helps...
