Backup question

In the Palm OS, backup seems very simple. Applications like Resco backup did backup everything. On restoring everything became as before.

With Android, this seems more complicated. Some apps. will backup only installed applications, some only sms, others data, and others everything.

I downloaded Titanium backup, it requires Root. What is root?

So please recommend an application which will backup everything or at least data of built in apps & data of third party applications like Dejaoffice.

Thanks

John

i'm not going to explain root. i just woke up and had no coffee yet. but..... http://tinyurl.com/y8kdngs
mybackup pro will backup apk's(android packages) and data but only if you're rooted.

I was thinking about Mybackup pro also. I even downloaded & am trying it. Actually Dejaoffice, my main PIM, is not integrated with Mybackup pro, so will not work for me.

Also, do we always have to login Mybackup before starting the program even if we only backup to the sd card?

Thanks.
John

there is a backup feature on android (froyo atleast). you didn't say which version of android you're on. in froyo you can move apps to SD too.

if you're talking about making a complete backup of your firmware as it is now then yeah you need to google how to root your particular model you will be directed to a few forums. you can do titanium backup or clockwork mod recovery though you need to check these will work with your model first.

if you're just talking about syncing contacts cal & email then do that through your gmail account.
