Backpacking through Europe?Any one have hints/tips/ suggestions? Cost? Cool cheap

places? I'm just starting to plan. It is more of an idea really and it would probably be a couple more years until I make the trip. I know I don't really want to go to all big cities, I would really like to see a couple of small towns to really get the feel of the countries that I would be in. I'm going for more of a cultural trip rather than a history lesson... So do you have any hints or tips? Ways to keep the cost down? I'm fearful that it will cost my life's savings. Any places that you have travelled that you really enjoyed in Europe? Thank you!
 
Bring all different types of clothes. You never know what the weather will be like in Europe. It may be sunny one day or rainy the next. Warm then cold. You NEED to bring a rain jacket. It's a must.
