ok well i have decided that i am going to backpack through china, i havent decided if i am going to go alone or with other people, most likely with at least one other person and anyways i have been thinking this for a long time but i still can't decide if i should do a gap year (after high school, im a 15 year old guy btw.) where i work in china teaching English for 6 months and then travelling for 6 months or maybe just save up now, yes i have a job, and then travel for a full year or to travel for a college summer (july august september) before i go to college or university. OR should i do one of the above after i finish college/university? If i decide to go for just the summer I wil definatley go before but if i do one of the year options i dont know if i should go before or after college/university and i am going to be a history/ english teacher and i know alot of people say that you shouldnt take the gap year because then you will loose focus and not be able to get back into the "school routine" but its not like im doing science or math where there is alot of equations and elements to remember so i think i will be ok that way also i will being doing post secondary probably for at least 4 years so more like 5 or 6 so i dont want to go once i am in my mid twenties and i also want to go before because first off of the experience and i want a better outlook on life in general and the world. So should i go before college/university and should i go for the 3 month summer, a gap year where i travel for 6 months and work for the first six months or just save up before and travel for the full 12 months? Also if anyone has any experience with doing this then it would be great if you could mention the overall costs and great places to go, also im not looking to go to drink cheap beer and blaze across and not just going to the tourist attractions and checking china off my list but more like off the beaten track stuff visiting temples in tibet climbing mountains and seeing villages and stuff, of course it will be impossible to avoid cities all together but hopefully you know what i mean anyways any help it greatly appreciated but please nothing directing me to lonley planet becuase i have heard that it is very false and out of date !!

If you're an American with an American passport then good luck being able to backpack like that. Pretty impossible. Go to Indonesia, Thailand and Cambodia instead.
