Backpacking California: Questions.?

I want too eventually backpack California....all up the West Coast (more time in Santa Barbara, Orange County, SD).......I want to rent a surf board and catch some rays, see everything California has to offer.

Is there jobs available in California that could be temporary for the backpacker?
How much are living costs?? How far would $1000 dollars get a guy if he didn't get a job there...? Is there a lot of hostels??

ahhhh.. i can say yeah.. it's kinda hard to live in california... SB and orange county are expensive place to live in... . 1grant??? that's nothing dude... i mean.... you payment in hotel or a house is like 800 to 900
 
CA is going through a really hard time right now. Google: California economic situation- and read what comes up.

Come to Boulder, CO. A young man will not have enough time or energy for all of the available, open minded girls. And we have plenty of jobs.
