Backpack, tote, purse? First day of school.?

So in september ill have my first day of freshman year. I know your thinking, well thats a long time from now!But i want to get prepared and stuff early, so i can get like my backpacks and stuff early so i can get my clothes later on.
Did/Do you take a backpack, tote, or purse to highschool? I heard many people say they took a tote or purse instead of a backpack, so can i or would they give too many books?
Sorry if its in the wrong category btw, I wasn't sure.
 
Try a cute pastel colored tote, that's what a lot of people do in highschool. If you want to try something a little different though, to not just blend in, try a vibrant backpack, something from hottopic maybe. Also, if you get a tote, make sure it has pockets on the inside for pencils and stuff, if your not bringing a pouch for them. Goodluck!
 
use a tote bag, that's what everyone is using. and dont worry about the books because you can put them in your locker once you have your schedule. also its not like the teachers want you to carry all your books everyday in school and even when you go home and do your hw.
 
I think tote.
I think that if you make sure you can fit A4 into it then I think it will be plenty big enough.
