Mechanical back pain is a common medical problem and is what we usually think of as "back pain." It usually means the pain has come on recently and the source of the pain could be the discs, vertebrae, soft tissues or the spinal joints. Mechanical back pain implies that the source of pain is in the spine or in its supporting muscles and ligaments.
