back up lights dont work...1997 dodge dakota?

hi...iposted alot of quuestions about my dakota....this is a simple one....my backup lights dont work...i put new bulbs in...and checked the switch on the trans....my uncle did it actully...he ran a wire somehow into theports of the clip...and nothing...still doesntwork? ideas? God Bless--Nick
