i'm almost 58, good heath, but need microdiscectomy on T-12,L-1,L3-LR,L4-L5,L5-S1. how safe,how long recovery time

Have you sought out consultations with a few more doctors? With all of those levels involved you may want to see additional neurosurgeons and/or orthopedic spine surgeons. My worry would be creating a mutli-level unstable spine if you have multiple micro discectomies.
 
I agree 100% with SpineAZ. That's an awful lot of levels to have surgery on. When a doctor does a microdiscectomy, they need to cut muscles and tissues to get to the area. Also, they need to remove part of the lamina at each level (part of the vertebrea toward your back at each level). The result can be instability of your spine which could lead to future surgeries and potentially chronic pain. This is a surgery you don't want to have unless it is really necessary.

You'll be surprised at how different the opinions are of different doctors when they are viewing the same set of MRI's and other tests.
