Back strain/sprain from work 5 months ago? More sensative than ever?

I worked as a caregiver through a small agency. Being new with this type of work, about two months into the job, I was pumping a client up using a hoyer, and heard a loud "pop" noise, followed by immense heat, and tingling. No pain or irritation in my legs, just my bottom. Well, because of my injury, this agency discharged me for no longer meeting, "desired criteria", and this left me unable to return to the job whatsoever. My physician has had me on light duty/restrictions the past five months, for whatever future job I seek. I have been going to physical therapy once to twice a week, and things have been okay. There is daily irritation now in my lower back, and it is very obvious just how much more sensative my back has become? I am no longer a sound sleeper, my back gets tight and I feel pressure, which makes it hard to find a comfortable position. If I reach for something, I feel an occasional shock in my back, sudden, but obvious...it is hard to describe, but it has gotten annoying. Heating pads help, but temporarily. And sitting down for so long brings the tightness or presure-like sensations as well.
This past week I was bending to the dryer to pull out a couple things, and felt another "pop" sensation. Within an hour or so later up until the next two days or so, it was hurting horribly!
My question is this, I guess: How long will I experience these mild irritations? Is my back automatically more prone to reinjury? I have no medical history of any kind of back problems. I am a 22 year old female! My physical therapy is consisting of untrasound, and electric stimulation. Things have kept about the same. I feel okay everyday, but some are worse than others. How long can these restrictions last?
