hi everyone,
i got this really bad back problem that i have had ever since 1993 i had a car accident hit some black ice on motorway and crashed into central reservation. since then i keep getting problems with my lower back bottom of spine and disks. what happens is that about six times a year my back will just go on me what happens is i get a really bad pain right across my lower back the only way to describe it is like being hit across your lower back with a baseball bat . when this happens i cant staighten up propally or walk this can last anytime between 1-6 weeks i cant even lie down propaly or sit down im in too much pain. i have been sent for a xray but that came back as normal .
i need a MRI scan on it to see what damage there is there must be something wrong otherwise why does it keep going like this and when it does why am i in so much pain . is there anyone on here who has the same problem or simular i would be interested to hear from them or if anyone knows what is wrong with my back. thankyou

I had the same problem. After many visits to pt, lots of meRAB and rest, and one appointment for traction at pt, which TOTALLY made me unable to walk or stand up, my dr FINALLY did an MRI. Turns out I had fractured my L5 and crushed the disks surrounding it! They had done MANY xrays and were not able to see this!?!?!?!? Get the MRI ASAP! When I finally got to my neurosurgeon, he said that I had pieces of bone resting against my spinal column, and the traction had nearly paralyzed me! One wrong move and it would have been all over. Good luck to you!!!

hi kerry thank you very much for your reply im in shock to say the least what
has happened to you that is terrible . and what i have described is what you were experiencing aswell . i went to see my GP last night he is going to refer
me for a MRI scan so that i can find out the reasons why im having this problem and why im in so much pain. what you have said in your reply to my thread makes alot of sense thankyou very much kerry. see here in the UK i dont know how long the waiting list is for MRI scan i dont think it is as long as it was about twelve ,onths ago the NHS have a contracted company to releive the pressure off the waiting list. how are you nowadays regarding your back ? that must have frightened the life out of you hearing what you did about all the problems that the MRI scan showed you were very lucky not to be paralysed. its made me think especially when it keep happening and everytime it does it seems to be worse and takes longer to recover . thank you again kerry take care .

I wish I could say that I was doing great, however, nerve damage did occur, so I still live with back pain (although not like before!) and the nerve pain in my legs is unbearable sometimes. I am getting some great feedback from this board and am going to my next appointment with the pain dr armed with some new ideas! The back pain will never go away, I have roRAB, screws and brackets in there, and had two fusions with cadaver bone, which did take completely. Keep your chin up, and be careful! Also, be strong with the drs and don't let them make you feel like you are "just complaining." My neurosurgeon was great, but my pain dr likes to write things off, and tell me that I don't need as many meRAB. I don't take much compared to what I have seen on this board, so I feel pretty good about that part. You just have to keep telling yourself that it's OK, and that you will make it through the bad days, and it's OK to take meRAB on those days! (I'm a little freaky about getting addicted to anything as my sister is an addict!) I tend to undermedicate and put myself in more pain than necessary, but I am trying to work through that and keep myself comfortable so that I can still enjoy life, because otherwise you just want to give up! Don't let yourself get caught in that trap, because it's a hard one to get out of! ;)

sorry to hear that you still in alot of pain due to nerve damage , i know what you mean regarding not relying on meRAB too much because alot of them are addictive and that not so easy to ween off them after most of the time they only give you a little bit of pain releif if any sometime . glad you are getting plenty of feed back on the boarRAB aswell the only messages i have had is off you sound really bad tho if you have got roRAB & screws and brackets and fusions cadaver bone, i will be careful now especially after what you told me the other day about one wrong move and it could paralyse me thats scary on its own. but i do keep my chin up and dont let it ruin my life i am one of these peopl if i go to see a specialist or a consultant i never let them try to fob me off i alwaysgive them a hard time if they try to feed you garbish just to save money for our NHS thats what its all about over here if they can get out of treating you with regarding surgery that costs they will try there hardest to get out of . thanx again for you message you take care you sound like a really strong person and you know how to make you live your life comfortable.
