I have back and worse/leg pain. MRI says I have a gr 2 spondylolisthesis (degenerative) w/foramen narrowing..Physical therapy helped but I have maxed out after 7 months. the back pain is only about a 3 out of 10 pain..BUT the L-leg pain (calf and big toe is bad) (MRI say L5 S1) I am 52 yrs old.
I have heard of laser surgeries..one called foramenectomy? The incision is only about 1 inch and they report pain relief in the leg... I am scared of big stuff that is coming my way..If I can stay away from major surgery, then thats the way to go..does anyone know about these laser surgeries??
I can walk just down the street only..
Interestingly, I can ride a bike and this never hurts..
Luckily I have a desk job so I can work..sitting is not usually painful..just walking.. I f anyone knows anything, than you have my gratitude..thank you..

hi i was reading with interest abt your back . i have the same sort of problem but what is interesting is i can only walk for a short time b4 pain comes in my back and down my leg till i feel my leg go nurab . but i can ride a bike too . but when i have explained to people and doctors i can ride the bike they cant believe i can ride a bike with the problems i have,

Spondylolisthesis is the movement of one vertebrae over another. So I am not sure any of the laser type surgeries would be a good option - as the problem is not solely a disc issue. I had a fusion for spondylolistheses - it pulls the "moving" vertebrae back into correct alignment to alleviate nerve pain and associated pain.

the bike riding saves me..physical therapy helped also, but its a lifelong thing, and I always feel like, is this the day when things go really bad?

thanks..yes, I agree-- but the laser would create a bigger space for the nerve and the leg pain would diminish.
Yet the problem remains...and could get worse...for the future..
