what could be responsible for my continuous back pain even when there is no indication of fracture?

If you only had an x-ray done, it will not show if you have herniated discs or things like that. Only a MRI or CT scan will show the condition of the discs that are between the vertebra sometimes they touch on nerves in the spine when they are bulging and herniated.

As you obviously now know...one does not need to have a fracture to have continuous back pain. There are all sorts of possiblities when it comes to back pain. Could be something as minor as a pulled or strained muscle...or...a more serious condition such as a disc herniation/bulge, vertebral slippage, stenosis, degenerative disc disease, etc. See a spine doctor and have an MRI done to determine the cause of your pain.
