Since I am a child (now 35 years old), everytime I have to go to the bathroom (bowel movement) hours before my lower back on the left side will kill me. When I am finally able to release --my back pain pretty much goes away till the next time. If I ate a big meal--it could take a day and a half to for the pain to go away.

I just got tested to see if I have celiac's disease, could it be related or could it be something else?

Thanks

I would definately go to a good gastroenterologist and check this condition. I never heard about having spinal problems and the symptoms you experiencing. If you have severe constipations and you have to push hard, than your back may act out.
Good luck to you in finding answers you need.

I have had this pain before, once, when I was extremely constipated. It was pretty scary! I would suggest since this has been going on since you were young, that either you have an ongoing constipation problem like IBS with constipation, or like the other poster said, it is pressing on a nerve. If you do feel constipated as a rule, you might want to try taking stool softeners, or daily fiber caplets to stay regular. Good Luck! Hope it goes away!

Thanks all for your recommendations. It isn't diverticulitos. I have a mixture of constipation and diarreha--which could be IBS. But what bothers me is that doctors now label all stomach related problems now to IBS. When I was having a gallbladder attack, they told me it was IBS in the ER even after running a catscan etc. It was my internist that said it didn't make sense (they gave me meRAB for IBS and it did absolutely nothing) where I went for a special test and found that my gallbladder needed to be removed.

I am actually curious if anyone with Celiacs or any of my other symptoms have had. I have psoriasis, psoriatic arthritis, gallbladder removed and possibilities of Celiacs.

errrr.
I don't know. I just find that if I don't research every possibility--the doctors don't. ugh

Thanks again

The pain is actually before I actually go to the bathroom. It isn't exactly on my spine it is on the lower left side of my back. Also, I just had my small intestine biopsy, but not sure if the back pain is related to anyother condition. Until I found this gastrointerologist--all they would say is that I don't eat correctly (like too many sweets etc) but I don't eat that stuff. I did have my gallbladder removed last year, but I had the back pains way before any gallbladder problems and now after. ugh

TA,

To totally change the topic - have they checked you for endometroisis? Endometroisis can cause a ton of different symptoms and unfortunately many doctors are poorly educated on the symptoms which include: adhesions, bowel symptoms and bladder symptoms. Just an idea.

Did anyone ever tell you that this could be Diverticuloses? Sometimes when people have this conditions (it could be either side) and it's not treated on time, scar tissue forms in your colon and it can be cause of pain.

thanks, I will research it more. What is funny is that so many of these diseases have such similar symptoms--that one just can't know.

You didn't change the subject--you provided something to it. Much appreciated

Prior to my third surgery, I had a similar experience. I noticed that sometimes when my back would really hurt, I would notice the pain was relieved after going to the bathroom. I just assumed that it must be crowding near my inflamed nerve or something, that was relieved when I had a bowel movement.

I too have back pain before a bowel movement. It is not always the same but when the symptoms occur it goes on for many months the same. This happens weather I am constipated or regular, more fiber and water or less. I can not pin point a catalyst. I have been told too that I don't eat right or that I should lose weight. I remeraber having excruciating pain as a small child too and the doctors never found anything. If anyone does know what causes this it would be a great thing to learn. I am considering doing a colon cleansing to see if that will help.
I have seen this same complaint posted in several places on this website.

cutie, your sure you didnt hurt your back in anyway? I have sorta this same thing just my constipation makes my back worse and i have had all the tests to make sure it wasnt my bowels. I hope you find something out.
Take care, monkey
