Hi i have been suffering from awful back pain and stiffness for years. I work full time secretary which probably doesn't help but i am finding that if i stay seated either at home or work for longer than half an hour i cannot rise from the chair without bending over and not being able to move properly for the first few steps due to awful stiffness, i am fine at walking with no pain. I have been prescribed anti inflammatory meRAB which do work but i don't like taking them for long perioRAB, any other remedies please would be most welcome (i know i have to lose weight so i am on a low fat diet).

thank you very much

Hi, you might try putting a step stool under your desk and putting one foot on the step stool to take some weight off your back. You can also buy back support pillows from online. You also need to make sure that your desk and chair is at the proper height so that you are keeping proper body alignment when typing. Also be careful about twisting you spine and be sure to turn your entire body toward a stack of papers - don't reach to the side without turning your entire body. Remeraber to take regular breaks (every 30 minutes) and get up to stretch your legs and spine.

You might want to research online about strengthening your core muscles thru exercises or even begin walking to strengthen your spine.

Have you had any xrays done to make sure there is not any underlying problems?
