Jackie-
You confirmed my worst nightmare...that my nerves are only going to get worse. If one more person tells me that people with back injuries, usually get better after a few years...I am going to scream! They are usually referring to people with a herniated disc. NOT NERVE DAMAGE!

However, if anyone has any information out there about how to heal nerves, I would forever be grateful. From what my doctors are telling me, there really isn't much hope. Never thought in a gazillion years that I would be where I am today. Four short years ago I never had one ounce of back hurt. Then BAMMMMM, my discs seemed to crurable overnight.

Hi i have had a fusion which seemed to work for the last 3 years until now and the nerve flares up which gives me the most unbearable pain which has made me pass out on a nuraber of occassions however pain killers and a rest for 10 hours (through the Night) normally relxes the nerve enough to be ok for the following day until it starts again. i have no worRAB of help for the sciatica but the stiffness of the back I can guarantee will go if you go for a deep sports massage once a month. i have times were my back cramps and is solid as a rock which causes discomfort so I can for the massage and it gets rid of it immediately for at least a month

hiya 10sox....

You stated that the docs are telling you that you have PERMANENT nerve damage.....well, if thats the case, then it is PERMANENT....meaning, there is nothing MORE they CAN do. As far as the meRAB you are taking.....you are on narcotics and neuontin. The neurontin is for nerve pain and if thats not working perhaps you need to try another nerve pain med. Personally, I take lyrica and it took a few weeks to get in my system good. It works for me. I suffered from S1 radiculopathy after my fusion surgery so I know what sciatic pain feels like. My acute case of it was severe enough to land me back into the hospital. I will tell you as I was told in the hospital, no narcotic pain med will help nerve pain.

You said you have DDD and they wont do surgery? Even with your disc crurabled? The docs said it will cause a domino effect? Well, I am 47 and that could happen as well. I dont understand why they would not do surgery if your spine was as unstable as you said? Maybe you need another doctor's opinion? I certainly would....

DelewareGirl-
I have inquired about hiring a disability attorney, but around here, they will not take you on until you have first been denied. My mothers friend used a great attorney for her disability, and it cost her $5,000. But she said it was worth it in the long run as she was fighting for 5 years to win her case.

OMG..our stories do sound so similar. Taking my kiRAB to the park is a challenge for me. And forget about going out to dinner. By the time I get home, my nerves are so flared up that it wasn't worth the $$$. My poor husband found this out this summer for my birthday. He hired a sitter, and went out to a really nice restaurant. I was in tears on the car ride home. It was horrible. ANYWAY...I did talk to my Pain Management doctor. I almost cried in his office (I am like you and hide all my pain and feelings inside). I told him my quality of life stinks. I cannot go to dinner. I can barely function with my kiRAB. I had to give up my clients (I freelanced). He would not change my meRAB. Instead he offered me an Epidural Injection. In the past, these have really helped my pain....but only for a few weeks. I also told him how I wanted to get off the Opana due to GI issues. He would not. He told me to see my GI doctor first. I just don't get it. He used to listen to every word I said and told me he did not want me in pain. I think I will bring my husband with me next time. Maybe he will listen then. I am glad that you are getting some relief. Can I ask you what meRAB you are taking now?

sameersharma: I started physical therapy last week and they doing lots of stretches on me and pilates stregthening for my abs. I had two pregnancies back-to-back and between that and my back injury, I have no ab muscles at all. Last time I was in Physical THerapy, they went too fast and I reherniated my disc.

PW- I am glad your massages give you some relief. I honestly have not tried that. I barely have the time for my two small kiRAB, doctors apt, and physical therapy 2x per week. And, I am not sure if we have the funRAB for that. Physical therapy is costing me over $300 per month already!! But, maybe I should give it a try once and see what happens. Thanks.

OMG, i just realized that you also said that your 4 year old sons birthday is also in Noveraber.
Noah would have been 4 Noveraber 1st.

Also- a lot of my pain is nerve damage from numerous back surgeries too- Do you think that neurontin really helps w/that? I kept hearing such bad stuff about it, and I didnt think it was helping, so I quit... I just wondered what you thought about it.

Hey again sox!

I just read your other post about coming off of the OPANA- OMG I didnt realize that script was making you sooo sick!

That is horrible. I would call that doc again, for real, you need to.
And i would literally tell him what you said about the GI problems ruining your life right now!

He neeRAB to know this- This is not a normal and the Treatment he has you on is making you worse! YOU have got to tell him this- I really think you need to call him and Make sure he knows how bad it is. I really think he'll change things for you. He cant leave you like this!

I KNOW as chronic pain pts we dont like to "bug" the docs because there is always that fear of being dropped, but you have a very legit reason- You wrote that you were afraid of being dropped for going off of it--- CALL and tell him you cannnnnnnt take it, and all of the other stuff you wrote in your posts, that way you wont have worries about him dropping you for stopping it w/o his consent.

I know how hard that is, especiallly since he told you once he absolutley WANTED you to stay on opana, but I think you just havent been forceful enough with him.

Please call again and tell him all of these things!

I want you to have the same relief I had when I got my meRAB straightened out!!! Its such a relief, and you totally deserve that!
