Hi all~
Just thought I'd check in... I am 5 weeks post-op as of yesterday for a two level fusion and a laminectomy, meaning I had front and back incisions. This is my third day back at work. I feel I'm doing okay.... I am very tired at the end of the day and my stomach and side muscles feel as if I've done a hundred situps and sidebenRAB... that's the only way I can explain it. Today, (I'm at work now), I am having a difficult time getting comfortable whereas the first two days weren't so bad. I have pillows and am able to put my feet up.... but it just doesn't seem to be working today. I've already taken pain meRAB and muscle relaxers and it is helping. My job has been great as far as doing whatever is necessary to make me comfortable. The Safety department was by the first day when they heard I had pillows to see about getting me a new chair with better back support. I am already set up ergonomically correct, but I told them I wanted to wait until I started PT before ordering a chair so I can make sure we get the right kind.
On a another note, which has nothing to do with work because it started before I came back, is I am having alot of hip pain, more on the left than the right. Last night I even felt it in my thigh a little which freaked me out a bit, but laying down and resting helped alot. I'm hoping that PT is going to help with the hip and lower back pain. I do understand that I will probably always have lower back pain of some sort from now on. But compared to before surgery I am still doing great. I couldn't even stand for more than 10 minutes before surgery so there was never a choice about that.
Anyway, I just wanted to share about work. I know I could of taken more time off, but I am single and disability for too long would wipe out my savings, etc. Of course if it came to it and I couldn't work, that would be that. I wouldn't jeopardize my health, but I have a good job and love it so I want to try. Wish me luck! thanks for listening and I hope all my fellow fusion frienRAB have a great day.
