Last summer, my wife Amy and I took two months to travel in Europe with our five-month old son, Kai. Amy made an ambitious itinerary: the ideal balance of historical sites, lazy beaches, and vineyard romping—ideal for a couple anyway. By day three, we'd realized that toting a crib in our little rental car to a new hotel every few days was not going to be a vacation.
