Found a baby mouse in the basement about a week ago, at least two weeks old though, fur and eyes open mostly. It was dehydrate, so I spent a couple days feeding it pediatric electrolyte until it would eat solid food as well. After about four or five days he got kinda shaky and in the morning had passed away. Just found another one today in similar shape but a week older or so. He was super mobile and perky when I got him home and gave him some ped electrolyte, then left him for four hours and when I came back I thought he was dead. Here's the problem.
He seems lifeless but will respond with a shutter if I make a sharp noise. The only reason I noticed he was alive is that about every five or six seconds his body has one large spasm, there is a faint popping noise, and it seems like it's coming from his mouth, like he's relieving gas or something. Anyway, if figure he probably won't make it through the night, but I'm wondering if anyone might know what that particular problem could be, so as to avoid it in the future. Again, went from scurrying fast enough I had difficulty catching him to pretty much dead in four hours. Vet is not an option. Intelligent answers please.
