...published these days? Some published authors *swear* that their very books will bring any one of us to the attention of the mainstream industry--so long as we follow their "advice" or "teachings" to the letter.
Does it work often as advertised, or do you also use common knowledge (of your selected genre) to know what you're writing about in order to become published?
Because--for me--it's a little of both: Common knowledge--based on the books I've read in years past--and some help from the guides I have at home.
When it comes to writing? I don't follow what's out there. But I know enough of the genre to know where to start and where to finish.
But why do I get the impression that those published feel like people like us don't know what we do as writers and feel compelled to instruct us on the proper etiquette of the genre--before we even get started?
