Axial Procedure

Has anyone heard of this or had it performed? I just saw this on TV last night. It is a minimally invasive surgery done with bone grafting. Apparently, you are up and walking right away after the procedure. I believe it is only appropriate for L5 S1 and L4 L5 disc degeneration. It was a NYC doctor who was interviewed.
 
Not to be negative but I know two people in PT who have had this and both ended up with a full blown fusion, which they warn you about in advance if there are any problems. They were highly disappointed when they woke up. I believe it is close but not quite perfected yet.
 
Thanks for your input. I thought this procedure was a type of fusion. It replaces the degenerated disc with bone material.
