Avocado oil

The first time I saw this on the shelves was this past Saturday. Has
anyone tried it? I found the following article. Note that in the
article, it states that avocados are considered a fruit, and not a
vegetable. Later on it states that avocado oil is a vegetable oil?
Is grape seed oil a fruit oil, or a vegetable oil? A seed oil would
be a more accurate description.

What is Avocado Oil, How is it Made, and What is it Used for?

First of all, avocado oil, comes from avocados! Avocados are no longer
just for guacomole, either!

To produce avocado oil, you must extract the oil from the avocado,
which is pressed or extracted from the avocado's flesh or its dried
pulp.

The finest "culinary" grade avocado oil is produced through the "cold-
pressing" of the avocado oil from the avocado's flesh or outer skin
just like olive oil is cold-pressed to produce olive oil.

Avocado oil is also extracted from the avocado's dehydrated pulp,
through cold-pressing or chemical (solvent) extraction which is then
no longer "food-grade" but can be used as a base in cosmetics.

Avocados are considered a fruit, NOT vegetable! Avocado oil is a rich
and deep-penetrating oil, that is rich in vitamins A, D and E, as well
as lecithin and potassium.

Avocado oil provides a number of health benefits including; healing,
anti-bacterial and anti-wrinkle benefits for the skin. Avocado oil
also contains proteins, beta-carotene, and more than 20% percent
essential unsaturated fatty acids which helps heal sun-damaged age
spots and scars.

Avocado oil is a great moisturizer and nourishes the skin, and aids in
relieving the dryness and itching of psoriasis and eczema.

Recent studies have shown that avocado oil significantly increases the
amount of collagen in the skin as avocado oil easily penetrates the
skin and does so more deeply than other plant oils. Avocado oil also
provides strong UV absorption properties, which make it an ideal
supplement as a sun blocks.

Finally, as avocado oil is a vegetable oil, it can also be used in the
production of B100 Biodiesel!

Portland,

If it grows above ground, it's a fruit! AND it's got a pit!

I've never tried avocado oil so I can't comment about it but, I've heard
of it.

Best,

Andy
