Avatar related: Difference between 3D and 3D Silver Screen?

Uh-Huh!

Planning on going and watching it - really hope it lives up to the hype. The only thing is... my local cinema has both of these listed on their schedules - what's the difference?

I know going back to the older 3D movies in the 80's, some cinemas used to instal 'silver screens', which were just a white material painted with a silvery, luminescent paint which would make the screen very bright.

This was nescessary because when you were wearing old style red and green coloured glasses, the screen would look a lot darker, which meant you could miss a lot of the detail.

Even the modern 3D glasses, which use grey polarising filters, darken the image quite a bit, so it is well that they make an effort to brighten it in the first place. Go for the silver screen if you can.

I think now it's just a matter of taste some people don't like 3d films for various reasons.
I know some people get severe vertigo effects from 3d films.
