If you have the positive terminal hooked up but leave the negative unhooked but run a test light between the negative post and the negative cable or any other ground to the vehicle should it light up?? Not between the negative and positive as many will answer, between the open negative post and the unhooked negative cable or ground.
plus if it was supposed to light up then that would suggest that there was a positive charge being applied to the ground system as that would be the positive charge and the battery terminal would be the ground.

yes it should light up because all of the grounds in the car are hooked up to the body/frame or the engine block. Running a test light between the negative battery terminal and engine block or body/frame will complete the circuit, therefore lighting the test light.
