My grannys 1993 Jeep cherokee is making a whining sound when you put it in gear and also slips once drivin for a few minutes. money is tight right now and im a descent mechanic but no expert. im thinking that its the front pump in the automatic going out that seems to make the whining, or could it need a simple new fluid and filter tune up?

Try changing the fluid and filter and add a pint of Slick 50 High mileage transmission treatment. I have a 93 Buick and it got to where it would not go in any gear when it was cold and would refuse to go back to low gear when I stopped. I put a quart of Slick 50 in it and within 15 miles it was fixed. The stuff reconditions all the seals. I think what you are hearing is a bad seal letting fluid get by it.
