I just got my Bold 9700 (first smartphone!) and so far I'm really liking it. I'm having trouble understanding the purpose of the auto dimming backlight feature though. To clarify, I understand what the feature is doing and what the benefit is, however turning it off doesn't seem to do anything to curb it. I actually like the feature and am not having any problems with it, but why is there an option to turn it off if it doesn't actually turn it off?
If I set my Automatically dim backlight feature to off, save, and exit, then move between dark and bright rooms, the backlight still adjusts accordingly. I've read a few posts that claim this is the normal behaviour for the phone. If that is the case and this is normal, what exactly is the auto backlight dimming feature supposed to be doing?
