Richard Paul Evans is similar in a lot of ways. He writes very touching, often spiritual stories. His first book was The Christmas Box, and I think it became a trilogy of Christmas themed stories. Since then, he's gotten away from the Christmas theme and written more of a mildy romantic nature.
