Audiovox 6700 text to email address

My old phone would allow me to text to email adddress, but my 6700 will not allow me to send using the @ key. Verizon says its because the phone has outlook so they never expected people would want to (somewhat lame). i don't want to connect to the internet to just send text messages. The error actualy appears to be written into the code of the 6700 and not verizon stopping it.

Anyone ever get a work arround this ? i searched, but havent found anything.

ps: as a silly extra, if someone texts me through my @vtext.com then i can respond to them with no problem at all, i just cant initiate it.
