Audio streaming (.cgi) not working on Windows Media Player?

I'm trying to listen to a streaming internet program but Windows Media Player stopped working yesterday.

It says that the selected file has an extension (.cgi) that is not recognized by Windows Media Player.

I've never had a problem before with streaming from this website. In fact this problem happened "while" I was listening to the audio. It stopped working in the middle of it and when I tried to restart it I got that error message.

I have tried reinstalling the latest WMP and it says I already have the latest player and cannot reinstall with the download off Microsoft.

I have tried using Real Player and some other media players and they are all extremely buggy so if there is a way to get WMP to work again I'd like to.

Do I need to update something so it will recognize the .cgi files?

Any help would be appreciated!
