The Audi is probably in good shape, but if you plan on having it for a long time, don't get it. The Corollas are pretty ugly, but there's other cars like it that you an buy.

I'm a 21 year old girl who lives in Hollywood. Conflicted if I should get a nice car like everyone around me, or get one that is more practical since I am not wealthy like most girls here.

Should I buy an older 2006 Audi A4, maybe black on black
pros: looks and drives better
cons: older, more expensive for repairs, requires premium gas

or...

2008 Toyota Corolla, maybe white with dark interior
pros: much more fuel efficient, newer, reliable, less/cheaper maintenance
cons: ugly/looks cheap, most don't come with leather, less features, less exciting drive
like what would be a good alternative to the Toyota then? something similar in price/mileage but maybe less ugly

The toyota or maybe a nice little honda civic or mazda 6 of the same year. Audi will cost you a ton on maintenance and its just not a practical thing to do. The newer cars that are known for lasting a long time are the japanese manufacturers like toyota, honda, mazda, and nissan. I personally like the Mazdas because they are fun, yet affordable. They look a lot nicer than toyotas in my opinion, and you haven't heard anything bad about Mazda; unlike toyota with their recent recalls. Honda is great also; like their little civic coupe that lasts a long time, and is generally fun to drive also. those are the vehicles i would really recommend. hope this helps!

go look at the nissan maxima, it has a 255 horsepower 3.5 v6 it should do good on gas, and have plenty on snap to get you up to high speed, and it seems to be a popular little car, the audi is an expensive vw, with a terrible expensive repair record, but I see you are aware of that, that nissan is a little sleeper, it should do the job and be dependable, and the black ones I have seen should look good with you in them, so good luck, stay out of trouble, I think there should be one more question on the dmv test, "If a dumb boy wants to drive my car, is it ok? " then answer is always "HELL NO" Good luck
additional details www.samarins.com is a web site that has tons of information on what to look out for when buying used cars, and also has a used car review section, so spend some time doing research, because looking for a good used car, can be a severe pain in the butt, and may take some time. there is a lot of crap for sale out there, you want to buy the jewel in the pile of poop. (nor bring the crap home} and www.nada.com has a consumer guide, that gives you and idea of prices, and can in many cases, give you and idea of what motors came in which cars
