This sounds like one axle pulling at a different speed than the other, as would happen if tires are inflated differently or different size tires.
If one axle is used a lot more than the other, you can have different wear in the gears.
Now those could be the original cause of the problem, which I expect is that the final drive in the front axle is slipping a cog in the gear.
If there is a bit of play that allows the cog to slip, it will likely require a bearing replacement, or more than one. Your first step is to determine whether you have metal filings in the bottom of the housing, a strong indication that a bearing is failing. If one bearing started to fail, metal filings by now will have contaminated the rest.
Your gear slipping a cog will almost never happen as long as the bearings are sound. But once it starts, you may need to take a good look at the gears to see if you have damage there too.
