It depends on which one you have as there are a couple of different models. I got mine, for my C50, a Highway Hawk from Onidiea Suzuki and it mounts from the inside of the unit. So you have to remove a few screws to get the chrome cover off. My friend just bought on like yours for his 1100 Yamaha. They are the same part numbers when I cross referenced them the HH web sight. His is a glue on or double sided tape installation, an its from Yamaha. If it bothers you having to attach it from the outside see if you can exchange it. Like I said mine mounts from the inside and it is a press fit and can not fall off. If you have a windshield it is most important to have it for night riding. If you don't you get the speedo reflected up in the glass and you cannot see the road through the glass with the low beam on.
