My contract with ATT expired, however, my family would like to upgrade the phones. I have a family plan. If we do upgrade phones, would we have to get a new contract? What are the other charges, such as activation, and actual charge of the phone?
i dont want specific prices, otherwise i would have said the specific phone and plan. I just want to know the general charge categories that are associated

Yes, in order to get new phone at a discounted rate you must sign a new 2 yr agreement for each phone you upgrade. At&t charges an $18.00 upgrade fee per line that you choose upgrade. This fee is usually tacked on to the next billing cycle and isn't required to be paid when you buy the phones. You also will be given a discount on any phone you chose to upgrade to over what the suggested retail price. The price of the phone will vary depending on which you choose.

yes you'd get a new contract assuming you buy from ATT at a discounted price.
cant tell you the prices since you haven't mentioned which phones you're interested in but prices are usually close to if not the same as if a new subscriber were purchasing + tax.
