Atoms & the universe?

Is there an actual theory at the present existing stating that the concepts, facts, theories & etc about the atom may be related to how the universe is also structured or something like that since our solar system does look like an atom with regards to the sun and the planets that orbit around it? If so, what is it called so I can learn about it more.
I am not stating any facts of theories of my own... I am merely asking a question!
 
The first answerer is right. The analogy of atoms to orbial mechanics is an outdated one. Electrons behave nothing in the way an orbiting satellite, planet, or star does around a more massive object. The picture of the atom with electrons orbiting around the nucleus is essentially the Bohr model of the atom. The modern view is a lot fuzzier, so to speak. The electrons are not whizzing points. They are instead clouds of probability. The shapes of these clouds varies with the different orbitals.


Neither a modern astronomer, chemist, or quantum pyysicist would insinuate that these are similar models.

You're wrong, atoms are not a good analogy to the solar system. Ask any physicist and he or she will tell you that. The electrons are not little balls and they do not orbit like planets. Instead, there are "shells" of electrons because we cannot state the position of an electron, only the probability of it being in a certain location.
