My Christian friend and I were having a conversation about why I don't believe. He asked me how we know history is true (he is also a history major). I said we have that written down. He said that the Bible is also written down. But I said that we actually have evidence that those events were true, not so with the Bible. He said what kind of evidence do we have? He said basically what people have written down and artifacts. He said what makes you think that's anymore than what the Bible has?
What would you have said?
He was basically saying that there was no distinction between what I learned in my history class and the Bible. I should have said that in addition to: If that's true, then why did my history teacher say we couldn't write our papers on any religious topic? Surely if there was no distinction she would have totally let me write about events in the Bible. I should have asked him why not.
