What about the Doobie Brothers "Jesus is Just Alright,' and Lennon & McCartney's "Let it Be?"
Even though the artists were working for a patron, the patron may have inspired the work, but it was still inspired by faith. It would not have been seen as great or classical w/out the artist's influence.
Marilyn Manson does not qualify as a 'great artist.
