At what age should you discuss the birds & bees?

Seven y/o Susie went to her dad, who was working in the yard,
and asked, daddy what is sex? He thought well, is she
interested in this already? Then he decided that if she
was old enough to ask the question, then she was old
enough to get a straight answer.

He proceeded to tell her all about the birds and the bees,
embellished with a simple but thorough discussion of what
he thought she should know, including discreet references
to body parts.

When he finished explaining, Susie stood there looking at
him with her mouth hanging open. Her father asked, Why
did you ask this question? What brought up this subject
now? Susie replied, Mommy just told me to come outside
and find you and tell you that dinner would be ready in
a couple of secs.
 
Seven y/o Billy was at the park with his father when he noticed two dogs going at it. "Daddy, what are those dogs doing?"

The father thought and said, "Well, Billy. Those dogs are making a puppy."

Later that night there was a thunderstorm that woke Billy up and scared him. He went running into his parents room where he saw his parents making love. "Daddy! What are you doing to Mommy?"

The father was quite embarrassed, but said, "Well, Billy. Your mother and I are making you a baby brother."

Billy thought for a moment and said, "Can you flip her over? I'd rather have a puppy"
