AT&T pay as you go to prepaid

Hi,

I'm currently using a go-phone from AT&T pay as you go. I want to text more, without getting charged so much ($0.20 send and receive at present), so I want to know if I can change to a prepaid plan ('m essentially excluded from contracts as I'm a non-resident, and don't want a 2-year contract anyway).

Can I switch from pay-as-you-go to prepaid with AT&T, and keep the same number/phone/sim?

Also, if I want a better phone for texting (eg a QWERTY), can I just buy a compatible or unlocked phone from anywhere and stick my AT&T sim card in it?

All GoPhone accounts are already prepaid. AT&T Mobility sells messaging plans for the GoPhone Pay As You Go accounts. You have to order the messaging plan via Customer Service (611) every thirty days. The cost is deducted from your account balance. See this link for details: Feature Packages | AT&T

Most of the older phones with QWERTY keyboards are PDAs. You have to be careful that you are not using data since there are no unlimited data plans for the GoPhone.
