AT&T cellphone upgrades..?

I don't really understand this concept of... an upgrade? I've asked around and people have told me that when your contract ends you can renew it and upgrade your phone or something... I don't really understand what that means though. Does that mean when I upgrade my phone I can buy a new one paying the 2 year contract price? Ugh I'm confused.
 
getting a upgrade is like were you can buy a new phone like say the oringinal preice it 200$ with a new upgrade it would on be like 97$ or you can get a free on it just not might be as fancey, and you have to wait to years for a new upgrade, hope helped :)
 
upgrade is getting a "better" phone. usually it's free or it's discounted for being a good customer and for continuing to be a customer. your plan can be the same as before.

i have verizon and upgrade is free and it's usually after one year of a 2-yr contract. if i decide to upgrade my phone, i am forced to renew my contract for another 2 yrs >:[

call your att rep and ask them about the upgrade.
