The Mega Millions jackpot has reached $586 million, the fourth largest jackpot ever offered in the United States.
There have been 22 drawings without a winner, boosting the jackpot to where it stands now. Since last Tuesday’s drawing, the jackpot has grown more than $33 million, said Massachusetts State Lottery spokeswoman Beth Bresnahan. The next drawing for the jackpot will occur Tuesday. The odds of winning are one in 258,890,850, Bresnahan said.
The immediate cash option for a winner is $316.5 million.
The largest Mega Millions jackpot was recorded in March 2012, when the pot reached $656 million. The money was split three ways between ticketholders in Kansas, Illinois, and Maryland, said Bresnahan.
Last week, Appletown Market in Sterling sold one of the two winning tickets in Wednesday night’s $122.9 million Powerball jackpot.
Bresnahan said the winner has not yet come forward to claim the prize.
