At 55 my car (1994 Buick Century) jerks?

My car will kind of jerk at 55. We have put in a new EGR valve and that helped for a very little bit could it be the cadilatic converter? Husband is good at fixing vehicles if he know what is wrong with them. I would like to be able to drive my car places other than town. Please some advice it would be great.... ( can't afford to go to a mechanic) Thank you
