...stayed for one hr to eat lunch.? then return directly to the office, arriving at 3pm. she traveled to the restaurant at 45mph but her speed back to the office was 35 mph. if she traveled the same route both ways, how far is it from her office to the restaurant?
 
let x be time to go from office to restaurant

since she stayed a restaurant for 1 hour the total time she traveled was 3 hours.

distance = rate * time
office to restaurant 45 * x
restaurant to office 35 (3-x)

distance to/from office to restaurant is the same
thus

x * 45 = (3-x)*35

now solve for x and then plug into d=rt formula to find distance
