Astronomy, 2012 and Hollywood?

I want replies from astronomers/scientists and/or students of astronomy. How many of you actually believe this 2012 nonsense?

I do have a science degree but it is not in physics / astronomy. It should be obvious to anyone with a good grasp of high school grade science that the scenarios proposed for the end of the world in 2012 are either flat lies or impossible, sometimes both. The entire thing is a mess of a little superstition and a lot of fraud.

I work with a large group of people who all have degrees in science or engineering and none of them believe this muck. There are very few adults who do, whether they have degrees or not. Virtually everyone on these pages asking about it is aged 13 to 16 which they either say in so many worlds or you can tell from their spelling, grammar, phrasing and vocabulary.

Nobody who is capable of basic fact checking should be deceived by this. Such fact checking does not involve bunging "2012" into a search engines and hitting "enter". If some fraud claims the planets are going to align in 2012, you don't search 2012, you search "planetary alignments". It should not take long before you find that it's a lie.

Kids aged 13 - 16 don't know this, the younger ones have no science education and being essentially still children, they believe almost everything they are told. You could tell them to go get a can of striped paint and some glass nails and they would go.
