I go through perioRAB when it's really hard for me to get a full breath and I have a constant cough. It's usually for a month at a time.

I went to National Jewish and they told me I have minor stress/exercise induced asthma and acid reflux as well as too much thrush in my throat which causes my larynx to collapse before I get a full breath. They put me on Flovent, Albuterol, Prevacid, Advair (later), AND a liquid medicine for the thrush problem. I started taking all of them as well as my Adderall (I was diagnosed with ADHD when I was 7). HOW MANY MEDICINES CAN ONE PERSON POSSIBLY HANDLE?? Needless to say, I got terrible side effects. I'm not 100% sure but I think they started when Advair was added to the mix. Anyway, I was really tired in the afternoons and started getting really severe mood swings. I'm talking mainc/depressive mood swings. So I quit all of them. I still have the "cant get a full breath" feeling and it really interferes with school and my life in general especially with my lack of focus as it is.

Any suggestions??? Also, has anyone else heard of the too much thrush problem?

so sorry this was so long!

I am surprised they had you on Flovent and Advair at the same time. Normally it is one or the other - not both together - as they are daily preventers. And you should not have any thrush. Did the thrush med not get rid of it? Did you see a pulmonologist or asthma specialist or was this a GP?

They put me on the Advair after the Flovent. All I know is they put a tube up my nose to get to my larynx and they stopped at one point and showed me all this gunk and said it was thrush. The medicine probably would have worked, but I quit all of the meRAB when I got the mood swings so I don't know. What does thrush even do? I definitely didn't see a GP, but I'm not sure who I did see. I would make a guess, but they did so many tests (blowing in a tube, tube in nose, running on a treadmill, breathing into machine) that I'm not sure.

THrush is usually a side effect of inhaled steroiRAB - the Flovent. When you were on it, did you wash your mouth out after each puff? Some people are very sucesptible to it. I've never had that so I've been lucky. And yes, you need to take the trush meRAB to get rid of the thrush.

Advair can cause mood swings. I know lots of people who had to quit it. Esp African Americans have problems with it. I'd see if you can go back on the Flovent for a daily med. Just use the albuterol if you have an attack or premedicate before cardio with it.
