I have been having problems with my asthma. My Docter did a CT scan.It showed I have chronic sinistus. This is keeping my asthma messed up.I have a appointment with a Asthma and Allergy Docter Sept.7 th.I have been taking Antibiotics and Prednisone after I stop taking them every thing flares up again.I have started coughing, wheezing and have that tight feeling in my chest.I am using my Albuteral Inhaler and I take 1 Singulair at night.Do I need to take some more antibiotics and prednisone to clear this up again?
I hade to stop taking Syrabicort and Pulmicort because of side effects.

What type of doctor ordered the CT Scan? Did that doctor not prescribe anything to help you treat the chronic sinusitis?

Most patients who have chronic sinusitis are given a treatment regimen that includes a steroid nasal inhaler (Rhinocort AQ, Flonase, etc.) to help reduce the inflammation in their sinuses, antihistamines like Loratadine (Claritin) or Cetirizine (Zyrtec) to help address any underlying allergies, and daily irrigation with a SinusRinse bottle or neti pot.

You really should be on a steroid inhaler. Albuterol is designed to be a rescue medication, not a daily use maintenance medication and there are LOTS of options beyond Syrabicort and Pulmicort (Flovent, Asmanex, Qvar just to name a few).

Before you go back on oral steroiRAB and antibiotics you might consider taking a Claritin or Zyrtec every day and starting to use a SinusRinse bottle twice daily (you can get the antihistamines and the SinusRinse bottle without a prescription at any drugstore).

I would also recommend that you talk to the doctor about treatment for acid reflux, which can exacerbate asthma symptoms and, in some cases, cause asthma-like symptoms that don't respond will to traditional asthma medication.

My general practioner ordered the CT scan. The reason I am going to the specialist so he can see what else to give me.I am allready doing the saline flushes, and using Flonaze.I have been on prevacid for acid reflux for a long time. That was the first thing we checked. And the maintenance inhalers all gave me oral thrush, and down my throat and upper stomach. This was hard to clear up and very painful.I have been just useing the Albuterol when I had to.

gcsjr Thank you for your suggestions .Istarted on Promethazine for the cough,it has helped. On the Albuterol it says to take every 4 to 6 Hours as needed. When i was on the antibiotics and prednisone I didnt have to use it but very little. Now I just take it when I have to.I just got off of 14 days of antibiotics.I hope this Docter will be able to put me on something that will work so I can get off the antibiotics.Sorry for all the questions,I am new to this,I have had symptoms for a long time, but just been diagnosed.
