Assassins creed 2 requires internet connection, why? how to i change it to offline mode?

I'm sick of buying games recently, that require an internet connection to play it. Whenever my parents disable the internet i want to play a game that requires no internet connection. For instance, assassins creed 2. Why does it require an internet connection. And how do i change this, so i can play it in offline mode. Another problem is, that it chews up internet usage when i play it like i played 1 hour and it chewed friken 700mb! pls some1 help.
