Aside from obvious foods, what else triggers your acid reflux?

I know what the worst fooRAB are that cause acid reflux. However, I feel as if I'm missing something that is setting it off for me, as I have chronic heartburn 24/7. Even water gives me heartburn. I'm thinking there might be a food that isn't really thought of as causing reflux, maybe a food allergy or sensitivity. Aside from the obvious fooRAB, are there any other fooRAB that give you heartburn? How about wheat or dairy? I'm trying to figure out what kind of food I might want to eliminate for a while to see if I get better. Thanks!

hi i advoid the obvoius stuff as well but still have reflux, i have been gluten free for years so no its not that, one trigger food i definalty do no of is blueberries for me and eggs, but im ok with eggs in things like eggs in baking etc, the rest i dont no, i eat organic gluten free lots of friut and vigies and little if no junk food, and i still have problems sometimes i think that if your are bad food dosnt really matter in a sense cause we react to everyhting..........you could try going gluten free for two weeks or so to see if you improve, have you ever been tested for celiac deasese as that can cause reflux.............

Hi Nessie!

Thanks for replying! Interesting that eggs and blueberries give you reflux. For me, bananas give it to me bad, and they are supposed to help reflux. Also, peanut butter and tuna fish are really bad for me. But, it seems that everything gives me reflux. I haven't ever tried to go gluten or dairy free. I haven't been tested either. I've had really bad GERD for over 11 years, since I was 16 and PPIs always worked until this last January. I've been through almost all of them. I'm taking the last one now, Prevacid. It's only my 3rd day, but I'm still getting reflux so I'm worried it won't be very effective. I'm not understanding why PPIs are really working for me anymore. I guess I need to give Prevacid some more time though. I'm seriously considering the elimination of gluten and dairy since maybe one of those might be the problem.

hi yeah try gluten free and dairy free for a couple of weeks there are heaps of yummy alternatives and you can get some great gluten free bread, crackers etc. its worth a shot...........sometimes PPI just stop working, i have settled for the last one i could try Losec, as the other two wernt as good, even so i still reflux just not as bad, im off meRAB at the moment as i have a 24hr reflux probe test on monday........im considering nisson sugergy if shows reflux as i have to get my gallbladder out so the surgen said to get both done, the nisson fudo does have a 90% +++ rate...........
good luck in trying gluten free etc, i went gluten free a few years ago before i new i had refllux and it did help some of my tummy issues...i

Hi Sunny,

I am taking a med called Lyrica, which I started taking about 5 months before the symptoms started. I did think that it may be causing my heartburn. I've had GERD for over ten years, and it's always been controlled by PPIs. I was thinking that maybe, if it's the med, it's making it worse and therefore resistant to PPIs. I'm really hoping that it's the cause, but I'm sort of doubting it. In order to find out, I would have to wean off of it over time. I really depend on it for my fibro, so I would feel miserable without it. However, I'm really thinking about seeing if that may be what is causing it.

Hi Cyrstal, I am also taking Lyrica, and Cyrabalta, I am almost positive they do not cause it. I take one Lyrica in the morning and one at night, and I don't get GERD in the morning at all. The reason I think that my blood pressure med is doing it is because I take it right after dinner, and about 30 min. later I feel the heartburn. I wouldn't stop the Lyrica, especially if it is woking.
