As Time Goes By....What Era holds up?

I'm personally partial to the 1940's/50's and the current movies of the 2000's.

Nothing, in my eyes, can beat:

Watching Vivien Leigh and Marlon Brando go toe to toe in A Streetcar Named Desire...watching James Dean in his red jacket in Rebel Without a Cause...Seeing Marilyn Monroe paling around with Jack Lemmon and Tony Curtis in Some Like it Hot...or watching the classic beauty Audrey Hepburn in Rome with Gregory Peck.

Or watching Julia Roberts get her Oscar for Erin Brockovich...Watching the song and dance of Moulin Rouge and Chicago...Wondering if they would ever Find Nemo...Being on the Black Pearl with (Captain)Jack Sparrow...Being invited to a Big Fat Greek Wedding...and praying that the wedding wouldn't be crashed.

I think the stars of today do hold up well against the stars of the past and quite a few will be remembered for many years (well as long as the tabloids don't sink their teeth into them). Will any be remembered like Marilyn Monroe, James Dean, Katherine Hepburn, Audrey Hepburn, Marlon Brando...only time will tell.

I think a few have the potential like Julia Roberts, George Clooney, Nicole Kidman, Kate Winslet, Cate Blanchett, Johnny Depp and Leonardo Dicaprio.

Checked the list didn't see this discussed yet...thought it might bring up a good debate.

What era had the best films/stars? Discuss why you feel a certain era far surpasses any other time period. Do the stars of today put the stars of the 50's to shame? What movies/celebrities of now do you see standing the test of time?

Below you will find a list of the top 10 box office movies of each era (obviously this is just a sample of the films that were released in their particular decade) to help you in your debate.
